Derrick Rose steps into the center of the ring in a commercial worthy of his basketball prowess. They are obviously playing on the fact that Rose is a Chicago Bull, and he is evading matadors. He is able to show off his exceptional speed and dribbling ability. To cap off the metaphors, the crowd of cheering fans throw roses to him after he dunks.
The shoe itself, which is shown towards the end of the spot, is a pretty cool red and black high top. Although it is really all about the presentation of the shoe (done very well here), and the popularity of the athlete, with which it seems like Adidas has gotten Rose just as he is peaking into super-stardom, coming off an MVP season.
However, if the NBA lockout is not resolved in the near future, none of this will matter and Adidas, Nike, and everyone else will have a difficult time marketing any of its basketball apparel.
